After the sudden death of Queen Margret on the 12th of December 1564, the court is discussing who will be the heir to the kingdom of England.
Charles is the “rightful” and “lawful” heir to the kingdom, said the Earl of Northumberland. The kingdom currently needs a ruler who will bring “stability”, “peace” and help in enhancing the “legacy” of the Her Majesty, suggested the Earl of Northumberland to the court. The Earl of Devon supports the Earl of Northumberland for suggesting Charles be the heir. William Somerset, the Earl of Worcester, will lead the kingdom to “death”, said the Earl of Northumberland.
The Earl of Kent expressed his support for William Somerset, the Earl of Worcester from House of Lancaster, House of Beaufort. If someone from England claims the throne, “without conflict”, it will take “foreign interest out”, the Earl of Kent suggested. The Earl of Kent insisted that a “disruptive force” is not needed in the kingdom of England.
Given the historical imbalances in the kingdom of England, the Earl of Kent indicated that the Spanish and the Scots will “pull England apart”, the Lord said. The Lord of Sussex and Lord of Derby support William’s claim to the throne.
The duke of Norfolk doubts the legitimacy of William Somerset. “How can any man support a man like Somerset?”, said the Duke of Norfolk.
Queen Mary has 8,000 troops marching towards the Kingdom from the north of the kingdom. The Earl of Northumberland, Warwick, Norfolk and Devon indicated their support for the Queen who is set to marry Charles and form an alliance.
