Europe is Dead.

Europe has bent over to Marine Le Pen’s thrusting force –  declaring itself as the “peasants to France”. While some on the delegation thought that was an ironic way of letting pass Le Pen’s childish ways, the rest of us know that Europe is indeed dead. Oh Europe! Force of liberalism and the birthplace of democracy we will look back at your proud history through a rose veil. Yet Europe has turned into a hunched back old hag with little hope of straightening up. This was seen clearly in the ‘discussion’ of immigration where ended up agreeing with eachother. There is no fight  – Europe has given up…

Inter-faith relations: Cuba and Saudi Arabia christen themselves as guardians of Religious Freedom

One historically Catholic and the other the birthplace of Islam, Cuba and Saudi Arabia didn’t realise they were sharing the same bed.

Cuba has come a long way since 1959.  Decades suppression of religious freedom by the Communist regime has converged to an important declaration by the Cuban delegation in the Human Rights Council: Religious statues need protection during warfare. An atheist regime telling religious statues they need protection? Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised at all. Nonetheless,  while during a meeting with the current Pope, the leader of Cuba, Raul Castro, has alluded to returning back to Catholic Mass – the Cuban delegation seems miles ahead.

Cuba was joined by, none-less then Saudi Arabia in promoting itself as a voice of Religious Freedom.  “The religious bodies of our country need regulation!”, the Saudi delegate declares, “this is our fight against radical fundamentalism!”. On the question of whether churches  can be built on Saudi land, the Saudi delegate declared, “No!  this land was sacred to Islamic heritage!”. While the Saudi peoples continue to enjoy the economic benefits of thousands of Philippine and Indonesian domestic workers – many of whom are Christian, the rest of us are wondering why they are on the Human Rights council discussing religious freedom.

A bunch of Fruits in DISEC….

“Evidence is fruit!” The Russian delegate has declared. While the whole delegation with the notable exception of Israel (more to this later), were providing examples of Russian cyber interference , Russia was busy counting fruit. The Russian delegate, in his loud, clear and very thick American accent retorted, “Comparing the examples is like comparing apples, pineapples, pears, oranges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *RAWR*”. A nice fruit mince or fruit salad – take your preference. Yet as Breibart pointed out to Ms. Merkel in the G20 conference: apples, pineapples, pears, oranges are all fruit.

Concern it would seem be on the welfare of the North Korean himself and his demi-god, the supreme leader.  North Korea seem quite emotional throughout proceedings, asking for many apologies to the deep, irreversible damaged caused by hearing a difference of opinion. The state of the supreme leader was even more concerning. Three stages we learnt this extra supreme leader goes through:

  • Fists
  • Liquid
  • a tissue box

No further information was provided.

Moving on….

In later proceedings a rare, witty moment came from North Korea that brought much happiness into the room. In reaction to Russia’s circularity,  the delegate for North Korea retorted, ” the faceless men of Russia” (trust me it was slightly funnier in real life).

Israel’s agreeableness with Russia caused much suspicion. A direct question was asked to the Israeli delegate on whether he was a ‘bed-fellow’ with the Russia.

5 minutes elapsed before we got a definitive ‘No’.

France expected to tighten security for immigrants coming in.

To curb the immigrant crisis, France is expected to make it harder to become a French citizen even for those who are born in France. France will also not “confer” right to citizenship anymore.

France wishes to take back control of its borders by leaving Schengen area. This will impact the migrants coming into the nation.

France is set to curb migration to a net of 10,000 people per year, the delegate of France suggested.

The delegate of France insisted on “increasing” freedom of speech laws. The delegate ensured that Muslims will not be “targeted” and “affected” from these changes.

The suggested changes are focused on the illegal immigrants who are currently staying in France.

France wants to make it “impossible” for illegal immigrants to “legalise” their stay in France, the delegate suggested.

France is also set to have “tougher sentencing”. The delegate indicated on having 40,000 more places in prisons due to the increase in crime happening around the country. The delegate insisted the need for the places in the prisons.

France is set to curb the asylums requests which are made abroad by French consulates.

DISEC squabbles over semantics, reunifies Korean peninsula

DISEC’s issues with precise language from session one continue to plague them to the very end.

Heated debate has broken out between delegates from the DPRK, the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Germany, and a representative invited from southern Korea.

The debate centres around the issue of ambiguity present in the language of the working paper. The meaning of and distinction between civilian and military, or strategic and tactical, for example, is unclear in the paper.

The Russian Federation is concerned about the latitude this affords states parties to interpret the prospective resolution, fearing they would abuse this power. The DPRK delegation feels this fears are unfounded, because the language of the paper is not mandatory.

Additionally, the working paper appears to contain a clause that would support a mechanism for unifying the Korean peninsula, by fusing Korea with the hostile elements south of the demilitarized zone. A delegate for southern Korea admitted to authorship of this clause when pressed. This unprecedented development sits far outside the remit of the council, and, however sincerely aspirational it may be, is laughably naïve.

This rogue, 21st century Sunshine policy is nothing short of reprobate treachery. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea condemns these attempts to undermine the legitimate mission of the DISEC.

23 April 2017 – The United Nations Security Council on the final day of talks have unanimously expressed their commitment to providing long-term support for the Governments of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger and the people in their fight against Boko Haram.

Affecting some 17 million people, the crisis in Africa’s Lake Chad Basin is of global concern, already claiming the lives of more than 35,000 people.

The 15 members of the Council are in agreeance that broad, concerted action to confront violent extremism and bring development solutions to the region affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Council, however, has been deeply divided over how best to respond to Boko Haram’s bloody campaign and its underlying socio-economic drivers.

In line with the Hausa translation of Boko Haram, meaning “Western Education is forbidden”, the ambassador of Kazakhstan has highlighted the need to rebuild the social fabric of the area so a generation of children don’t miss out on education.

With 50,000 children in the area currently not in classrooms, the insurgents have destroyed 1,000 schools and uprooted nearly 20,000 teachers, according to Borno’s education ministry.

The Russian Federation is, however, dubious of Western intervention.

Through defence cooperation agreements, Russia has taken the lead in have providing sophisticated military equipment and training for security forces.
